Community of Practice in Autism: Intersectionality and Disproportionality of Race, Ethnicity and Disability

Dr. Kelly Acosta, Assistant Professor of Special Education at Rhode Island College, will lead this session centered around intersectionality and disproportionality, what these terms mean, specifically in regards to race, ethnicity, and individuals and their families with autism.

Dr. Kelly Acosta

Participants will have an opportunity to engage in discourse on the topics of intersectionality and disproportionality to further their understanding of the concepts. Discussion will also include a self-examination for participants to understand their own identities and how these identities play a role in perceptions of individuals and their families with autism from various racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Professional development

A general letter of attendance will be available at the end of the presentation.
Continuing Education credits (2 credit hours) from NASW-RI and RIMCHA will be available pending approval.
