Family Employment Awareness Training for Adults (FEAT-A)

The Sherlock Center provides a FREE, hybrid opportunity to learn about employment possibilities for adults with developmental disabilities, their family members, and professionals who support them. Attendees must attend both sessions.

Each session will be a live, interactive training offered in person at RIPIN, 300 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 300, Warwick, and virtually through Zoom from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Nov. 4 and 18.

Course content

Session 1: Building the dream of employment

  • Introduction to employment in Rhode Island
  • Supported and customized employment
  • Outside-the-box employment possibilities
  • Self-employment

Action item 1: Strength-based career mapping guide

  • Draws from whole life experiences
  • Focuses on strength of jobseeker, with consideration for support
     

Session 2: Putting the dream to work

  • Panel of adults successfully employed in Rhode Island
  • Contributing to the employment process
  • Office of Rehabilitation Services
  • Division of Developmental Disabilities

Action item 2: Plan for employment

  • Prioritize interest for Discovery and Exploration
  • Create 6-month Action Plan for employment
     

All participants receive:

  • Training materials and resources.
  • Opportunity to network with families, employees, and entrepreneurs.
  • Knowledge of state, federal and community resources that support employment.
