These events are for school teams only; one team contact must complete the registration form below.

Inclusion Institutes provide a setting for school personnel and parents to collaborate on planning the details of inclusion for one student who has developmental disabilities, giving teams the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation and time to plan.

Beyond benefiting individual students, the planning process equips teams with strategies that can be applied to a broader school population. To date, more than 200 schools have participated in Inclusion Institutes, working together to foster more inclusive learning environments.

The Sherlock Center covers the cost of the meeting space and meals, and provides:

  • a set of realistic operating principles
  • a step-by-step planning process
  • a set of resources
  • the time to discuss and plan in a stress-free environment

Parents and school personnel who have implemented meaningful inclusion programs will serve both as resources and as group facilitators at the Institute.

Each student-focused team must include:

  • one or both parents or guardians
  • the general education teacher
  • the special education teacher

If the student is transitioning to a new team or school, the general and special educators of both the old and new teams/schools should attend.

Additional team members may include, but are not limited to, the principal, special education director, teacher aide, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapist, physical therapist, etc.

Team contacts can register their teams for one of the following sessions. Each will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Wednesday, May 21
  • Thursday, May 29
