The Sherlock Center is seeking applicants for its interdisciplinary traineeship designed to prepare individuals from varying backgrounds to be future leaders in the disability field.
Opportunities are available for graduate students and undergraduate juniors and seniors in the disciplines of education, school psychology, social work, nursing, rehabilitation counseling, business and other areas that impact the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families.
Sherlock Center trainees are expected to engage in a variety of experiences focused on supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. These experiences help trainees develop the skills needed to positively influence and enhance the lives of the individuals and families they serve.
Trainees are expected to:
- Participate in 20 hours of work per month to gain skills and knowledge through a variety of experiences. (Sept. 1 - June 30)
- Meet at least once per month with traineeship coordinator and once per month with Sherlock Center mentor to discuss service hours completed and project progress. One of these meetings must be in person.
- Work with a Sherlock Center employee to develop a plan of work based on trainee interest and Sherlock Center needs.
- From September to June, attend a monthly two-hour interdisciplinary seminar at the Sherlock Center and/or online. Days and times will be determined and based on the group’s availability.
- Share a final work product illustrating activity with Sherlock Center initiatives.
Because of program requirements, trainees may not also serve as graduate assistants.
Trainees will receive a $500 monthly stipend from September to June, totaling $5,000 for their yearlong commitment.
