Self-Directed Supports Online Community

The Self-Directed Supports online community gives you a way to connect to share information with others using self-direction.

This interactive and engaging community where you can connect, learn and grow replaces the SDS Listserv, which will be phased out on Jan. 6, 2026. The Sherlock Center monitors the online community during business hours to ensure the resource is a safe place for members to share information and engage with others. Instructions to join our online community are below.

How to join our online community

Join the Sherlock Center Community

  1. After clicking the button above, you’ll be on the Sherlock Center Community Network page. Click “Join Now.”
  2. It will ask you to create an account using your first and last name, email and password.

    You will see five questions to answer, and the moderator will decide if you can join based on your answers.

  4. Once the moderator accepts you into the Sherlock Center Community, you will receive a confirmation email. Then you can choose another network to join.
     

Join the Self-Directed Supports Network

  1. To see the networks you can join, click Discovery and then Top Spaces.
  2. Find the Self-Directed Supports Network and click to join.
  3. Type your name and email address. The moderator will send you an email with a link to finish signing up.
  4. The moderator will decide if you can join based on your answers and, if accepted, you will receive a confirmation email. 

Using our online community

  1. You can use the website on a computer or get the app on iOS or Android.
  2. To find the Network easily, you can bookmark the website.
  3. On the left side, you can see the Members, the Feed and Discovery. This shows tabs, events and the networks you belong to.
  4. On the top right, you can start a chart, see your messages and alerts and change your profile settings.
  5. You can choose how you want to get notifications, like by email or phone alerts.
  6. You can also choose how often you want notifications and what kind you get. For example, you can decide to get messages for private chats but not for updates from the host.
  7. You will only get alerts for the networks you belong to.  
  8. If you want to leave a network, move your mouse over the network name on the left side. Click the three dots, then click More and choose Leave Space.
